Tom graduated from Clarkson University and completed his graduate studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He founded Hutchins Engineering in 2000 after working for area consulting firms. He has over thirty years of experience in industrial, commercial, and residential and civil, mechanical, and environmental engineering.
A native of the Adirondacks and an avid outdoorsman, Tom especially enjoys activities such as hiking, skiing, bicycling, motorcycling, and outdoor cooking.
Lucas has been involved in excavating, site work, and trucking since his childhood and works closely on our projects with many of the North Country excavating companies and local builders, applying theses experiences to our projects. A 2002 graduate of SUNY Adirondack and a 2005 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Lucas has been an employee of Hutchins Engineering since 2003, with three years of a co-op program through RIT and a full-time design engineer since June 2005. Subsequently, he earned his engineering license in June 2016 and is registered as a Professional Engineer in New York State.
Lucas' areas of specialties are in residential, lakefront, and commercial property development; site work; on-site wastewater systems and stormwater management; and subdivision projects. Other areas of specialty include working with regulatory and municipal entities such as local town Planning and Zoning Boards, Lake George Park Commission, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and the Adirondack Park Agency. Outside of work, Lucas enjoys outdoor recreation--boating, snowmobiling, camping, motorsports, and spending time with his family with whom he resides in North Queensbury.
Tom has over 25 years of experience in the engineering, design, and construction of civil, environmental, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. A 1993 graduate of Norwich University, Tom has been a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York since 2004. Tom is a lifelong resident of Glens Falls and worked for the City of Glens Falls as a firefighter for 25 years while also working for several local engineering firms until joining Hutchins Engineering in 2014 as a project engineer.
Tom's portfolio of projects tends to focus on commercial property development, but he also works on residential subdivisions, site work, stormwater designs, and inspections, and wastewater systems. Tom is well versed in Town, County, and State regulations and frequently guides client projects through complex approval processes.
When not working, Tom is an avid cyclist and adventurous cook. He and his wife travel when they can to visit with their two sons and enjoy new areas of the country.
